The 1.5 TGI (DHFA) is a gas engine developed by Volkswagen, designed to run on biogas or natural gas. It’s a four-cylinder inline unit based on the 1.4 TSI, but optimised for gas operation. The DHFA features direct fuel injection, which ensures efficient combustion and helps cut particulate emissions.
The DHFA produces a maximum output of 96 kW (130 hp) and 200 Nm of torque. It comes with Start-Stop technology, which shuts the engine off at traffic lights and other stops to help save fuel. Fuel economy is one of its biggest strengths — it uses less fuel than comparable petrol engines.
The DHFA’s service interval is around 30,000 km or every two years. The engine also has a system that keeps gaseous fuel from getting into the oil, which extends the oil-change interval.
The DHFA engine is used across the Volkswagen Group, in models such as the Volkswagen Golf TGI and Volkswagen Polo TGI. It’s also found in the Seat Leon and Škoda Octavia G-TEC. The DHFA is especially popular in Germany, where biogas use is widespread.
