The DQ200, part prefix 0AM, is Volkswagen Group’s dry-clutch seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox for smaller engines up to roughly 250 Nm. The dry design cuts drag losses and improves fuel economy, but it also makes the unit more sensitive to wear than the wet-clutch DQ250.

The mechatronic control unit is by far this gearbox’s single most common failure point, and it can often be replaced without changing the whole unit.
Typical failures
These are the reasons this gearbox usually gets replaced — check your own symptoms before ordering:
- mechatronic valve body failure — the gearbox drops into limp mode
- dry-clutch wear and slipping
- hydraulic pressure accumulator leak

Where to find your gearbox code
The gearbox code is the decisive detail: the same gearbox model was built under several codes, and they differ in ratios and software. There are three places to find it: the type plate on the gearbox casing, the equipment sticker on the first pages of the service book, or ask us — we check it against the VIN. Send the code or the VIN with your enquiry and we will supply the right unit.
