The 2.0 FSI (engine code: BVY) is a petrol engine manufactured by the Volkswagen Group, unveiled in 2003 and introduced the following year. Its development grew out of Volkswagen’s ambition to combine petrol-engine performance with economy in a single package. To achieve this, the engine was fitted with a number of innovative technical solutions that gave it a light construction and highly efficient fuel use.
The design of the 2.0 FSI focused on efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint. It features direct injection, which improves fuel economy and cuts emissions. The engine’s cylinder block is made from honed aluminium, which increases durability while reducing overall weight.
The BVY engine has 4 cylinders with 4 valves per cylinder. Displacement is 1,984 cc, with a bore x stroke of 82.5 mm x 92.8 mm. Maximum output is 150 hp (110 kW) at 6,000 rpm, and peak torque is 200 Nm at 3,500 rpm. The BVY engine reaches a top speed of around 211 km/h, with 0-100 km/h acceleration taking approximately 9.6 seconds.
The 2.0 FSI engine was used across several Volkswagen Group models. It featured in, among others: Volkswagen Golf (2004-2008), Volkswagen Jetta (2005-2010), Volkswagen Touran (2003-2015), Volkswagen Passat (2005-2010) and Audi A3 (2004-2013). The engine is highly reliable, economical and capable, and it remains in service in many cars around the world today.
Below are the key points at which the 2.0 FSI (engine code: BVY) was fitted to various car models and model years:
Production of the 2.0 FSI ran from 2003 to 2013, when it was replaced by newer engines across the Volkswagen Group’s line-up. Peak output across its variants is roughly 150-200 hp, and versions were fitted with direct injection and turbocharging. It is also a highly efficient, low-emission engine meeting Euro 4 emissions standards. Overall, the 2.0 FSI was a popular engine choice across many Volkswagen Group vehicles throughout its production run.
