1.5 T "4B40" Engine [Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, Outlancer, Lancer]

The 1.5 T engine, known by its engine code “4B40”, was developed by Mitsubishi. It’s a four-cylinder unit designed for use across a range of passenger cars, prized above all for its performance, fuel economy and reliability.

The biggest strength of the Mitsubishi 1.5 T engine is its compact, lightweight design, which suits smaller cars while still delivering plenty of power and performance. The engine uses direct fuel injection (GDI) for optimal fuel delivery and combustion, along with a low-pressure turbocharger that boosts output and adds low-end torque.

The crankshaft is made from high-grade steel, giving it durability and reducing vibration. The cylinders are cast from wear-resistant iron for long-term reliability, while the pistons are aluminium, keeping them light yet sturdy.

The Mitsubishi 1.5 T is also highly economical. It features start-stop technology that automatically shuts the engine off at traffic lights or in queues, plus a system that guards against overheating, cutting fuel consumption and extending the engine’s service life.
