The Volvo 2.4 D engine (engine code: D5244T5) is part of Volvo’s D-engine family. At its heart is a five-cylinder aluminium construction. The engine has a displacement of 2.4 litres, with a maximum output of 205 hp (151 kW) and peak torque of 420 Nm. Maximum engine speed is 5,000 rpm. Lubrication is handled by an oil pump, and the engine features an oil cooler. It is also fitted with a turbocharger, which boosts both power and torque.

The engine’s fuel system is a direct-injection system that uses a high-pressure pump to deliver fuel to the injectors. Exhaust gas treatment is handled by an SCR catalytic converter (Selective Catalytic Reduction), which reduces nitrogen oxide emissions.
