2.0 D "D4204T" Engine [e.g. Volvo V40, V50, V60]

Volvo’s 2.0 D (engine code: D4204T) was developed and built at Volvo’s own engine plant in Skövde, Sweden. It belongs to Volvo’s Drive-E engine family, engineered to deliver strong efficiency, low emissions and long-term reliability.

The 2.0 D is a four-cylinder unit fitted with a twin-scroll turbocharger that delivers strong torque and responsive acceleration across a wide range of driving conditions. A timing chain, rather than a belt, gives it a long service life. Peak output is 190 hp, with maximum torque of 400 Nm.

Volvo has fitted this engine across a wide range of models worldwide, including the V40, S60, V60, XC60, S80, XC70 and V70. It comes equipped with an AdBlue system that reduces nitrogen oxide emissions and meets Euro 6 emission standards.

One of the 2.0 D’s key strengths is its low fuel consumption and emissions. It features Start/Stop technology, which shuts the engine off when the car is stationary - for example at traffic lights - and restarts it as soon as the driver touches the accelerator, helping to cut fuel use and CO2 output.

The 2.0 D also runs remarkably quietly and smoothly, making it a pleasant engine for both driver and passengers.
