The Nissan HR12 engine is a small but powerful unit designed mainly for city driving. It’s highly fuel-efficient while still delivering decent performance, making it a great fit for smaller cars. Its design draws on advanced technology, giving it a reputation for reliability and long service life.
The HR12 has a displacement of 1.2 litres and runs on four cylinders. Maximum output is around 79 horsepower, with peak torque of about 106 Nm. The engine features multi-point fuel injection, which helps optimise fuel economy, along with continuously variable valve timing that improves efficiency and cuts emissions.
The HR12 is light and compact, making it especially practical in smaller cars. It also uses a lightweight timing belt system that helps reduce fuel consumption and boost performance.
The HR12 has powered numerous Nissan models, including the Micra, Note and Cube, and has also seen use in other brands such as Renault and Dacia. Thanks to its economy and reliability, it has been a hugely popular choice for small city cars.
The exact engine shown in the photo may no longer be available, but we always send our quote together with photos and full details of the available engine, including mileage and overall condition.
Which cars does this engine fit?
Engine code HR12 was fitted to models including: Nissan Micra, Note, Cube. The list is indicative — the same engine may also have been used in other models from the same manufacturer.
Always check your own engine code before ordering. The same displacement and the same model name can mean a different engine in a different model year, and only the code tells you for certain which engine the car has.
Where do I find the engine code?
The engine code is usually in one of three places:
- The registration document — under engine type or engine number.
- The engine itself — cast or stamped into the block, often at the gearbox end or under the cover.
- A workshop — a garage reads the code from your VIN in the manufacturer’s catalogue in a couple of minutes.
If you cannot find the code, send us the VIN and the registration number with your enquiry and we will look it up for you.
